Experiential Design

At Custom Line, we have fallen in love with sustainable design. We too want to join the movement of -”change yourself, change the world”. We’d like to do our part by starting with building homes in a better way. We dream of a day where everyone builds a healthy, comfortable, “custom” home. A home that is built purposefully for the people who will inhabit it. Our intention is to design and build custom homes that are functional, non-toxic, sustainable and most importantly- beautiful!

Our team is experimenting with unconventional designing and building principles that include construction methods, such as Adobe block and Rammed Earthen Walls. Pertaining to sustainability, we ask questions like, “How can we maintain the space feeling comfortable year round without the use of high energy?” We found that following a few key modern design principles and building with some old-world wisdom, we can achieve that.

All the materials used in our experiential design are non-toxic and are free of unnecessary chemicals, plasticizers, etc. Currently, we are designing a project that includes Adobe bricks and earthen-lime plastered walls. By building in this way, the building will take advantage of the free energy gain from the sun, thus retaining the the thermal mass in the walls and releasing it at night when temperatures drop.

During the day the earthen walls absorb sun. As the night cools, warmth gets released from the earthen walls, thus allowing and maintaining a comfortable temperature inside overnight. As the temperature changes during the day, the sun warms the earthen walls and the interior maintains a cool temperature as it releases the cold temperature of the night.

At Custom Line, we believe building in communion with the natural environment around us will improve the world. As we do our part in improving the world, we invite you to join us. If you would you like to build a custom home that involves sustainability principles, look no more. We can help.

Reach out, we love talking about this subject.
